What is Women on the Move?
Women on the Move is an event to celebrate women of achievement who are leaders in their field, who have shown a commitment to improving the quality of life for those in their community, and/or are role models for living with arthritis. The event is also a vehicle for creating awareness about women and arthritis and the tools available through the EPA Chapter to help cope with the disease.
Why is the Arthritis Foundation Focusing on Women?
Arthritis is a term encompassing more than 100 types of diseases and affecting 50 million Americans, including 300,000 children. Although arthritis can affect anyone, regardless of race, gender or age, the statistics are clear – more women than men are diagnosed with the disease. Sixty percent of all people who have arthritis are female and many of the common forms of arthritis are more prevalent in women. Among those are rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and some types of osteoarthritis (OA). Of the nearly 27 million Americans who have osteoarthritis, approximately 16 million are women. And women outnumber men by 2.5-to-1 in the incidence of RA. Finding ways of coping with arthritis is particularly important for women, who are often juggling work, family, caretaking, and a variety of social responsibilities.
The Advantages of Supporting Women on the Move
As a corporate sponsor of Women on the Move, your firm has an opportunity to position itself as a corporate leader in the fight against the number 1 cause of disability – arthritis – and, at the same time, reach women as a target market. Because Women on the Move is relatively new, it also gives you the opportunity to become one of the founding sponsors of an event that has the potential to become a national occurrence.
When Will the Event Take Place?
The EPA Chapter’s Women on the Move takes place August 8, 2012 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Neiman Marcus in the King of Prussia Mall. The event includes a Fashion Show, awards program, luncheon and silent auction. Individual reservations, as well as sponsorships, which include tables and representation in the Women on the Move Journal are available.
Of Note: Robert Lee Morris, award winning jewelry designer and sculptor, has just agreed to specially design the awards for Women on the Move in the Northeast Region. Mr. Morris is an acknowledged leader of the art jewelry movement and has collaborated or designed collections for fashion designers Michael Kors, Kansai Yamamoto, Calvin Klein, Anne Klein and Donna Karan. His most recent recognition, the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, was presented to him by the Council of Fashion Designers of American.
